Several months after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) declared that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies were not legal tenders in Nigeria. Various Financial bodies in the country have begun to pay extra attention to the activities of the Digital space.

The aim is to find a common ground where cryptocurrencies and other forms of digital assets can be used legally in the country, for the development of the economic uptrend of the nation.

The Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE has affirmed that Cyber Security is a fundamental factor necessary for the preservation of digital assets.

He said this is the reason the Agency prioritizes Cyber Security, which is one of the seven pillars of the Agency’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan, (SRAP 2021-2024), with a view of reinforcing cyberspace and creating a safe, reliable digital economy.

The Director-General explained his view on the need for uptight Cybersecurity activities while visiting Data Sixth, an IT Defense Operation Centre that focuses on Cyber Security intelligence located in Lagos.

Mallam Inuwa expressed his optimism in collaborating with Data Sixth whereby both parties can be aggressive towards combating cyber threats. Where he met with the Country Manager, Ms. Happiness Obioha, and members of her team.

Mrs. Obioha assured the DG of the Centre’s proactive technology which reduces the time of threat already domicile in work environments.

“We have the technology that identifies threats and prevents them from manifesting with advanced threat hunting solutions”, Mrs. Obioha disclosed.

The country’s manager at Data Sixth added that the Centre has skilled cybersecurity experts who are dedicated to providing expertise in security and risk consulting, managed security services, managed detection, and quick response with their Cyber Defense Operations Centre (CSOC), IT security audit, and penetration testing.
