The President of Keya, Uhuru Kenyatta confirms two extra cases of the deadly coronavirus in Kenya.

In his address to Kenyans on Sunday, he said that two extra cases of coronavirus has been recorded in Kenya. Also there is an on-going test on 27 persons who came into close contact with the country’s first patient.

Meanwhile, Learning has been suspended in all learnings institutions. Days schools will close down from today while boarding schools will close down from March 18, 2020. Then universities will close down  on March 20, 2020. 

He also encouraged the close down of government offices, businesses and companies including cryptocurrency based business to allow employees work from home except those in critical services.

During his speech, he advised Kenyans to avoid the use of paper money (fiat currency) so as to limit the spread and contacting of coronavirus.

“In order to avoid the risk of transmission through physical handling of money, we encourage the use of cashless transactions such as mobile money and credit cards.”

The government of Kenya has also suspended all the inbound travels from countries that has recorder cases of coronavirus.

Moreover, the Kenyan shilling exchange rate to the dollar market went down on Friday after the government confirmed the first case of coronavirus in East African.

At 0952 GMT on Saturday, the commercial banks quoted the shilling at 102.80/103.00 per dollar, down from Thursday’s close of 102.40/60.

“We have seen those who were willing to sell (dollars) at the previous price pull off. With supply coming down, its a challenge,” said a senior currency trader at a commercial bank.

The President during also assured Kenyans that the two patients affected are already taken to the isolation centre at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for treatment.

“Medical teams are closely monitoring the patients and they are responding well to treatment,” he said.
