In one of biggest mainstream NFT crypto adoption, Google video content sharing giant, YouTube is planning to add a non-fungible token (NFT) features for its video content creators, its CEO said in a letter sent to YouTube content creators on Tuesday.
“We’re always focused on expanding the YouTube ecosystem to help creators capitalize on emerging technologies, including things like NFTs, while continuing to strengthen and enhance the experiences creators and fans have on YouTube,” CEO Susan Wojcicki wrote in a letter, according to a Bloomberg report.
The announcement marks Google’s first venture into NFT digital collectibles, and comes shortly after the company hired a former PayPal executive to oversee its payments services, which include cryptocurrencies.
The news also comes following adoption by social media rivals Twitter and Facebook-owner Meta into the NFT space. Meta is reportedly working on building an NFT marketplace for users, while Twitter rolled out a feature that lets users officially verify NFTs used for their profile pictures.
