Regenerative Finance – ReFi is the internet of Finance. It’s all about decentralising funding through web. Just as the internet of information brought us new ways to browse information, the internet of finance will provide novel mechanisms to finance projects.
Originally, Regenerative Finance – ReFi was established to is shift the economy by transferring control of capital to communities most affected by racial, economic, and environmental injustices.
Overview
As of 2018, Regenerative Finance has been in a prolonged transition, and we hope to share more about our collective learning and shifting in the future. In the meantime, we wanted to offer some updates on what our collective members and movement partners have been up to: including launching an investment advisory firm, building community-controlled loan funds, and helping investors co-design an impact investment fund grounded in indigenous wisdom.
Regenerative finance – ReFi is a cultural preference for the funding of community and the public good over (or in parallel to) projects that are expected to produce a return for the funder. In the startup world, GiveFirst means trying to help anyone – especially entrepreneurs – with no expectation of getting anything back. Regenerative finance is Web 3.0’s answer to Silicon Valley’s GiveFirst.
And it could only have come after this summer’s DeFi degeneracy.
Merits Of Degenerative Finance
• Degenerative finance is democratic, not technocratic. It is the community using peer-to-peer (P2P) money to fund what the community needs funded. As opposed to the legacy world where billionaire philanthropists get to decide what is worthy of funding, open systems should be funded by the crowd. Over 5,000 cryptocurrency users contributed to the latest Gitcoin Grants Round.
• Regenerative finance funds the work that secures your bags and keeps your funds SAFU, but the true wealth is in the culture of regen finance. It’s a culture that thrives on overcoming cynicism, embracing longer term thinking and mutual trust.
• Degen finance is about leveraging the open financial system, with a high time preference, for near-term personal gain.
•Regen finance is about leveraging the open financial system, with a low time preference, for everyone’s gain.
Promising Regenerative Finance Crypto Projects.
Gitcoin Grant: The Gitcoin community uses Web 3 technology to fund and build digital public goods projects that serve everyone, and solve our most immediate problems. It’s a crowd funding for talents who need financing for their projects. Web3 technology like open source protocols and decentralized blockchains give us the ability to take that co-creation to a new scaleweb3 technology like open source protocols and decentralized blockchains give us the ability to take that co-creation to a new scale.
Gitcoin is the very center of Web3, with a vibrant and growing community of open source builders. The platform enables one to find peers who will compliment your skillset and team up to take on bounties and hackathons.
“Gitcoin gave me the first break into Ethereum and the crypto space. It helped me find bounties that I could work on and get paid in crypto. After my first ever bounty I got paid a lot and I felt euphoric” Stephen TF; Full Stack Developer.
Panvala: Initiated by ConsenSys, Panvala is a decentralized foundation that funds the work the Ethereum ecosystem depends on. This app is used by PAN token holders to determine which grant applications should be funded using a process called slate governance.
Version 1 of the application is live on mainnet and contains four object types: proposals, grant slates, governance slates, and ballots. For those looking to receive a grant, proposals can be added directly into the application to be displayed publicly, or they can be sent directly to a slate creator (the later option affords the grant proposer more privacy in the consideration of their proposal).
After proposals are added to the system, a slate creator selects the proposals they wish to add to their slate. During (or after) the creation of a slate, that slate must be staked to be added to the ballot. An unstaked slate can also be created, but that slate won’t appear on the ballot during the voting period.
Governance slates are added in the same way, but adjust a specific parameter that token holders might want to see adjusted. For example, the required number of tokens to stake a slate is a parameter that can be adjusted via a token holder vote.
The system will progress through four stages: Slate Submission, Intermission, Commit Voting, and Vote Reveal. These stages are repeated across each epoch. At the time of writing, Panvala is in its fourth epoch. During the commit voting stage, the token holders can vote using their tokens for one slate or porposals or another. Only one grant slate and one governance slate will win per quarter. The system also uses a first choice, second choice run-off voting system that enables the token holders to support a favorite slate without wasting their vote.
WhalerDAO is a community of builders, researchers, legal experts, and community influencers who are dedicated to help solve the plethora of problems that the world is facing, using the power of blockchain and decentralized finance (DeFi).
We call ourselves whalers, because we intend to take the control of DeFi protocols away from the rich & powerful “whales” and give it into the hands of the people, which is necessary for preventing DeFi from becoming just another tool for the rich to get even richer.
TREE is the first initiative of WhalerDAO to create a DeFi protocol that benefits charitable causes.
The value created by TREE will is allocated to several pools, one being a Charity Pool. TREE also serves as the Governance Token of the TREE Charity Pool, meaning TREE holders receive a vote in how the Charity Fund is allocated to each Charity.
As Regenerative Finance – ReFi gains momentum with the new web 3 technologies, do your due diligence research to know what project to invest in.
