The Original Doge Meme To Be Auctioned As NFT On Zora Marketplace

The Doge meme started with Atsuko Sato sharing photos of Kabosu, her adopted female Shiba Inu dog on social media, on Feb. 23, 2010. This inspired the creation of Dogecoin. The event will be curated by the online meme platform “Know Your Meme”

Atsuko Sato, the Japanese kindergarten teacher behind the Doge meme, has declared openly that the “meme of the decade” will be auctioned as a non-fungible token. Her photo became viral several months later after it was shared on Reddit in October 2010.

The proceeds of the sale will be donated to charity. She has just announced that the “meme of the decade” will be auctioned as a non-fungible token. The auction is set to go live on June 8 on the Zora marketplace.

Never in a million years would I have imagined the impact that my photoshoot of Kabosu would have on the internet. It’s a moment that’s evolved and taken on a life of its own over the last decade—being shared millions of times and creating an entire community around the Doge meme.

Today, I’m excited to share that I’ve minted the original meme and photoshoot images as NFTs, and will be auctioning them for charity. The auctions will open on June 8th and are open to the entire world. Please join me in this moment of internet history!

The NFTs are available at https://very.auction and are officially curated by Know Your Meme and supported by Zora.

The meme (Shiba inu) later caught the attention of IBM programmers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer who decided to create a Bitcoin hoax and called it Dogecoin. The token which started as a joke has become a global scale cryptocurrency.

Moving forward to 2021, the meme cryptocurrency reached a market cap of $90 billion after being energetically shilled by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his army of hodlers. Its current market value is roughly $47 billion.
