The invisible poly network hacker who stole over $600 million cryptocurrency funds has announced his willingness to return the loot.

According to Etherscan, at about 4:00 am UTC, on Wednesday, the hacker sent an Ethereum transaction to themselves stating that they are ready to return the fund in a message embedded in transaction message.

In a follow-up message, the hacker requested for a multisig wallet address to return the funds to Poly Network. ” Failed to contact the poly, need a multisig wallet from you” the message ended.

Earlier today, Poly Network provided three separate wallet addresses through it’s Twitter account with the intention that the hacker will send the stolen funds to the addresses. ” We are preparing a multisig address controlled by known Poly Network addresses,” This was Poly Network message to the hacker embedded to an Ethereum transaction to the hacker’s address.

Cross-chain developer, project O3 Labs suggested that the person behind the massive DeFi hack could be a white hat hacker.

In another subsequent message, the hacker noted; ” It’s already a legend to win so much fortune. It will be an eternal legend to save the world. I made the decision, no more DAO.”

The hacker thereafter started returning the stolen funds sending back over 1 million in USD Coin ( USDC) on the Polygon blockchain, around 8:00 am UTC. Poly Network confirmed receipt of funds stating, ” You are moving things to the right direction. We received 1+ M USDC on Polygon. Did you ask us to encrypt the receiving addresses with your Bookkeeper public key ?”

According data obtained by Collin Wu a crypto journalist, the hacker also retuned $2.65 million worth of Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Fei.

The rising popularity of DeFi has made the system hackers bee comb. Since 2019 , exploits worth near $300 million has been executed by hackers.
