University of Namibia Set to Offer Master’s Degree in Blockchain Technology in 2024

University of Namibia will start offering a master’s degree in blockchain technology starting in the year 2024, a senior employee with the institution has said.

University of Namibia (UNAM), is set to offer a blockchain technology-related course starting in 2024, the university’s head of the IT department, Samuel Nuungulu, has said.

Nuungulu, the chairperson of UNAM’s steering committee on the MSc on blockchain technology, explained that by introducing the degree program the university hopes to “lay the foundation for possible incubation of tech-startup out of the skills this program would create in the country.”

“Blockchain is the future and we thought it was necessary to use this degree as a forerunner in developing these much-needed skills in the country and continent at large.”

For the Namibian University, Nuungulu revealed that the university is already “infusing” blockchain technology-based content into UNAM’s level 8 programs, which the institution hopes to serve in the Senate by next year.

Another uniiversity offering Blockchain Course is the The University of Cape Town in South Africa. The Cape Town University offers a 6-week course program on blockchain technology and digital currency since November, 2021.

In Ghana and Rwanda, Africa Blockchain Institute (ABI) offers Blockchain Courses. ABI opened in Rwanda in 2021 and was operational in Ghana since 2019.  

The school intends to offer five courses namely; blockchain essentials certification course, blockchain developers’ course, enterprise blockchain course, blockchain for lawyers and blockchain for impact.

Also in Kenya, @ilabAfrica-Strathmore University in 2022 partnered with 482.solutions, Odessa, Ukraine to provide training on blockchain solutions development to students and other interested professionals.
