Elon Musk today announced plans to launch a new social media platform to rival Twitter on the backdrop of controversies surrounding Twitter algorithms.
“Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy. What should be done?” Elon Musk asked in a tweet post.
Some argues that unregulated social media platform of such nature as desired by Elon Musk will breed bots and increase spread of fake news, propaganda and scams .
One of his followers asked of the potential of the new platform having a Dogecoin Tip jar, Elon responded with an affirmative 💯 emoji.
Musk was responding to a Twitter user’s question on whether he would consider building a social media platform consisting of an open source algorithm and one that would prioritize free speech, and where propaganda was minimal.
Musk, a prolific user of Twitter himself, has been critical of the social media platform and its policies of late. He has said the company is undermining democracy by failing to adhere to free speech principles.
