Blockchain Developers Community of University of Nigeria Jos (UniJos), Conducts University Election Using Ethereum Based Voting Dapp Univote Voting App.
A community of cryptocureency and blockchain enthusiasts from the central part of Nigeria developed an ethereum based voting dapp powered by blocking technology.
The blockchain developers community at the Federal University of Jos (UniJos) developed a functioning voting dapp on ethereum test-net. The ethereum dapp is still on the ethereum test-net and can be used for conducting election in Nigeria.
Some of the agencies, departments and companies supporting the blockchain powered voting service include:
Godfrey Malan – President, NACOSS, UniJos chapter.
Shekinah Gozwak – Director of Software, NACOSS
Stephen Sunday Kusu – Aeternity Lead, Nigeria and CEO, KusuConsult
The ethereum based voting dapp is known as Univote. This is probably the first voting dapp to be used for elections in the african university system.
The mock election was held on Monday 13th January 2020. The ethereum-based voting dapp is still on ethereum test-net environment. The test-net version of the Univote voting dapp will be functional to help it’s blockchain developer team achieve a good result.
The blocking developer team of the Univote voting dapp hopes to launch the Univote voting dapp on the aeternity network mainnet in the near future.
The Univote voting dapp enables users to do the following:
Create elections for their own groups, schools, organisations etc.
Add candidates of their choice freely.
Cast votes without any third party interference.
Watch live scores with the on-going voting.
See final vote tally publicly from anywhere around the world.
The ethereum blockchain powered dapp, Univote has received support from the NACOSS (National Approval Council for Security Systems) a goverment agency in Nigeria.
Moreover, the blockchain startup also received approval from the school’s Department of Computer Science and the ICT Directorate of Unijos, certifying the dapp for use.
