President Tinubu arrives in Brazil for the BRICS Summit to showcase Nigeria’s reforms and push for global economic realignment.
President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Brazil for the 17th BRICS Summit, where he will present Nigeria’s economic reform agenda and seek stronger ties with fellow member states. The summit, hosted in Rio de Janeiro on July 6–7, brings together BRICS nations—now expanded to include Nigeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, UAE, Iran, and Indonesia.
Tinubu, received with military honors at Galeão Air Force Base, is scheduled to meet Brazilian President Lula da Silva and deliver a keynote at the summit plenary. His address will highlight Nigeria’s macroeconomic reforms, investment opportunities, and strategies for boosting key sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and renewables.
BRICS now represents nearly 40% of global GDP and half the world’s population. Nigeria, officially admitted in January 2025, sees the bloc as a strategic platform for shaping a fairer global order and attracting foreign partnerships. The summit’s theme—“Strengthening Global South Cooperation”—will focus on AI governance, climate change, and multilateral reform.
