CBN Governor Yemi Cardoso urges African unity as Afreximbank’s capital surpasses $40B, calling for deeper trade integration.
At the Afreximbank 2025 Annual Meetings, CBN Governor Yemi Cardoso praised the Bank’s rise from a $750M base to $40B in capital assets, crediting it as a vital pillar of Africa’s economic resilience.
He called for strategic cohesion among African states, emphasizing the urgent need to fast-track African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), strengthen regional integration, and engage the diaspora for sustainable development. Cardoso also highlighted the Bank’s energy sector investments, including Dangote and Port Harcourt refineries, and support for Nigeria’s fertilizer and creative industries.
With rising global fragmentation and trade protectionism, Cardoso stressed that Africa must think long-term and build resilient institutions to secure its future.
