ADCB Threatens Legal Action Over Bank of Ghana’s Warning on AKL Lumi and Digital Currency Ties

The African Diaspora Central Bank (ADCB) has threatened legal action against the Bank of Ghana for warning the public against the AKL Lumi cryptocurrency and its alleged ties to HanyPay and Yellow Card.

Ghana’s central bank stated it does not authorize the AKL Lumi or recognize ADCB’s operations. Yellow Card denied any link to HanyPay, contradicting HanyPay’s earlier claims.

ADCB insists the warning was misleading, citing an alleged agreement with Ghana’s Finance Ministry and a 2024 meeting with former President Akufo-Addo. It also claims HanyPay is licensed under a diaspora regulatory framework—though no Ghanaian approval has been shown.

No formal retraction request has reached the Bank of Ghana. The clash highlights rising friction between African regulators and diaspora-led digital currency efforts.
